BACKGROUND
Museums are great, however with technology today there isn’t much motivation to go since everything they have to offer can be found online from the comfort of peoples homes.
WHY
This app was created for users looking to explore new museums without having to worry about timing, directions, or crowds while also giving them an idea of what each one has to offer.
By giving users easy access to this information, people are more likley to fill their time with new expereiences while also learning along the way.
Goal: Create an app that helps the average college student with an everyday task.
Coming up with the idea
When it came to the broad prompt for this project, it took me a while to settle on one idea. As someone who likes to cook, and lives on a college campus, I have many issues with this everyday task.
Although my app doesn’t solve the problem of limited grocery options, I made sure to focus on other pain points that make cooking home meals difficult for students.
While this was not required, I decided to link this project with one in my SI422 class. Here I researched the issues involving grocery shopping at the University of Michigan in depth and learned a lot about students and their shopping/ cooking habits.
Research and resulting pain points
Like I mentioned before, I spent a semester focusing on the problem of shopping for groceries in another class of mine. So, by using my findings from that and conducting other interviews I was able to find 3 main pain points I wanted my app to hit…
Convenience
Time
Affordability
From there, I created the wireframes and logging my work using Pivotal Tracker to make sure my project was on track and that it included all of the features to relieve these pain points.
Convenience
Creates a personalized meal plan based off of students preferences
Takes into account the grocery options on campus
Automatically makes list based off of the meals planned
Time
During initial quiz, the time is personalized based off of students availability
Next to each recipe it includes the time it takes to make it
Creates one grocery list at the beginning of the week so you only need to make time to shop once
Affordability
During initial quiz, students are asked about how much they are willing to spend on groceries per week
Includes the option to log items they already have so they don’t buy repeats and have the opportunity to use groceries before they go bad
Final Prototype
Overall I am happy with how this project came out. In most of my classes we mainly focus on the research part of the process, but since this class focused more on the final product, I decided to combine some of my research from another class. I do feel like this version needs a little design work, however it does a good job hitting the pain points along with an easy to use interface.
